Augusta is its own market
Richmond County is a distinct market on the South Carolina line, with its own referral and court networks and no meaningful relationship to a metro Atlanta search. Its defining feature for anyone looking for housing is geography: for many people here, the nearest options are in another state.

The state line is closer than the next county
Homes on the South Carolina side may be nearer than homes an hour into Georgia, and there is nothing wrong with looking at them. But moving across a state line can affect your benefits, your health coverage, where your prescriptions can be filled, and — if you are under any court supervision — whether you are permitted to live there at all.
Check three things before you commit: what your supervising officer says in writing, what happens to any state benefits you receive, and how you will keep any prescribed medication filled without a gap. None of these are reasons not to move. They are reasons not to find out afterwards.
What recovery housing actually is
An ordinary house where everyone living there is working on recovery and everyone has agreed to the same written standards. People go to work, go to meetings, cook, clean and get on each other's nerves the way housemates do. The difference from any other shared house is that the expectations are written down, everyone signed them, and they apply to everyone the same way.

Augusta anchors the Central Savannah River area, and the counties around it are part of the same practical search — a home twenty minutes out is still a home you can get to work from.
